(Children’s Classes listed separately!) With the exception of weekly classes, the fee is $125 for Members and $155 for Members-To-Be, which includes a Bay Rivers membership.  For more information and enrollment, call BRAG at 621-0659, Monday thru Thursday, 9 am to 4 pm.

Monday

Beginning Acrylics with Jane Sellier (6 Weeks)

9 am to Noon             No previous painting experience required.  Step-by-step demonstrations will show you how easy it is to paint.  Can’t draw?  This is the class for you!  Jane’s philosophy is “to have fun, be experimental & share with others.”

1 to 4 PM    Drawing for Everyone with Marilyn Ammons (6 Weeks)

Here is a drawing class for anyone wanting to improve skills they have OR don’t know they have!  A drawing demo with instruction will be given each week.  Students will then practice the new “skill” or work on his/her own drawing project.  The classes will have an “open studio” feel while the instructor gives individual attention.   Open to all skill levels.

1 to 4 pm     Awash with Watercolor with Virginia Dekle (Weekly)

Students  will learn the techniques of watercolor from color-mixing, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush…you name it, you can learn it!  Progress at your own rate & come when you can.  A comfortable, inviting class environment.   All levels of talent welcomed!  Members $12 & Members-To-Be $15.

Tuesday

How to Paint Like You . . . Only Better!  (Oil Paint) with Ted Burn (8 Weeks)                                                          9 am to Noon     Every painter has a potential style that is unique to oneself, and

when developed properly, could produce some spectacular work.  Projects will be created to help each artist develop his/her own style while learning some techniques and tools that will help to improve the work… copy the art of another artist to learn what he/she was thinking           about when creating that  particular piece... paint from our own photographs and learn how to turn an average shot into a much better painting… paint from still life while learning how to build a dramatic and more simple still life (sometimes very simple things can make a really good painting).  Learn how to use color to add depth, how to use edges to lead a viewer around

a painting, and how to use space to create drama. That's a lot to teach (and learn) in an 8-week course. I plan to continue the class in 8-week segments on a regular basis.  We will definitely have fun, and we will "all" learn together. Yes, the teacher learns stuff, too.   Some experience recommended.

1 to 4 pm                         Brush Strokes – Loose or Not! with Benita McNider  (8 Weeks)

What to do…be your ole self or experience a different painting style?  BYO subject to render,

 2) your enthusiasm/curiosity , and 3) your oil/acrylic paints to get started.  The first week will offer an interactive demonstration to loosen you up and inspire you – every painting is a learning experience.  Have fun with it! Your instructor will be there to help you enjoy your

8-week journey.

1 to 4 pm      Awash with Watercolor with Virginia Dekle (Weekly)

                       See Monday above.

Thursday

Smorgasbord with Barbara Thomas (6 Weeks)

9 am to Noon             You may prefer to work with your medium of choice OR experiment with a new one…to tempt your palette with an assortment of mediums, each week the instructor will provide a “demo” in one of the following:  graphite pencil, charcoal, conte’ crayon, pen & ink, pastel, watercolor or acrylic.  Bring your project/subject & medium, and the instructor will gladly assist you.

1 to 4 pm     Creative Colored Pencil Paintings with Nancy Wininger (8 Weeks)

Work on one or more on-going projects.  Students will choose a subject or work from his/her own photographs.  We will discuss subject matter and composition, work on drawings and options for transferring to paper.  Each week will allow time for continued painting, selecting color choices as well as solving color problems.  Bring in your favorite subject, and let’s get to it!   Previous colored pencil experience recommended.

Saturday

Introduction to Japanese Brush Strokes with Maria Papp (6 Weeks)

9 am to Noon   An introduction to Japanese brush strokes will take you into a Sumi-e journey

to capture the essence of the subject matter.

Don Andrews’ Watercolor Workshop

January 16 – 20, 2012

Painting Figures In The Landscape

Many landscape paintings benefit from the vitality that figures provide; yet so often we shy

away from painting them.  You’ll be surprised how quickly you can become adept at

introducing lively, believable figures in your landscapes once you learn how to perfect your

approach.   Students will explore a variety of ways to use the human form as an accent,

point of interest or dominant  character in any landscape painting.  9 am – Noon & 1 – 4 pm

daily.  Members $300 & Members-To-Be, $330, which includes a membership.

Call 621-0659 for more information & enrollment.
